Pricing – What does it cost?

Pricing – Extreme Value, Competitive Pricinglarge-icon-02

Aplomb will always try to match a quote.

How are translation costs calculated?

Rates are calculated from the word count or character count of a completed translation. Quotations are based on the estimated final word count, allowing for expansion or contraction of text.  If the estimate is too high, the price will go down.  Price per word varies according to language and document type (unusual languages and specialist translations are more expensive, for example) and we have a minimum charge of £75 plus VAT.

Is Proofreading really FREE?

Proofreading is always included in the cost of Aplomb’s translations as we provide a full professional quality service.

All our translation prices include proofreading as standard.  Separate proofreading services are charged by the hour – which is most cost efficient.

How is Transcription priced?

Transcription is charged for on an hourly basis.  Quotes are provided in accordance with the quality of the audio provided.

How is Subtitling priced?

How fast can we translate?

We would like to be able to say that there is practically no limit to our translating speed but realistically, because we don’t like to compromise on quality, about 20,000 words a day is as fast as we can translate — though this does depend on the nature of your document. We think few translation agencies can do better.

Speedy Translations

How fast is urgent?

For super speedy translations, we organise a team of translators working round the clock.  A proof-reader then brings together the different parts, harmonising terminology and style.  All work is supervised by Aplomb’s certified translations managers.

Normal Speed

What is the usual speed?

Normal text can be translated by a single translator at a rate of 2-3,000 words per day.  More complicated jobs — handwritten or highly technical text, or translations for publication — will be slower.

Interim measures

Can I see it before it is completed?

Because we understand that you may not be able to wait while a translation is being completed, we can return draft sections of a translation to you in the meantime, for information purposes only.  Later, we can provide you with the final, proof read version.

In most cases, Aplomb’s translators and interpreters are members of professional associations like the Institute of Translations and Interpreting, the American Translators Association, and The Institute of Linguists. The ITI and the ATA bodies each require successful completion of professional standard examinations to attain membership.  The Institute of Linguists offers qualifications including, Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (DPSI), Diploma in Translation (DipTrans) and the Diploma in Police Interpreting (DPI).

Many professional translators have degrees, qualifications and experience in their subject fields (law, finance, economics, medicine, shipping, engineering, etc.) and have studied and worked in their language pairs alongside their original career development, acquiring their translation skills organically.  They then formalise their language skills through professional accreditation (ITI, ATA, IoL, etc.).  Other translators and interpreters hold BA and MA degrees in translation and interpreting.  They too often sit further professional body exams.

In the EU, the lawyer linguist is a specialist who holds a law degree or GDL and who also has strong language skills.  Lawyer linguists within the EU work on translating, drafting, checking or revising legal texts.  At Aplomb, we take this as a model for all our subject fields and we actively recruit experienced specialists with linguistic skills across the world.

Training and Certification

At Aplomb, we provide professional development training and certification for our translators and interpreters to ensure we meet the high standards required to serve our clients.

No matter how well qualified, all Aplomb’s translators are tested to ensure they meet our high standard before being included as part of our team.  Many of our translators have worked with Aplomb since we first began and most have worked with us for years.

Is it necessary to use translators and interpreters?

Why use translators and interpreters?

1. Clear Understanding:  Ensure your message and meaning is understood and easy to hear and read.

2. Establish Trust: Conducting business in a client’s native language improves credibility, and demonstrates care. Translations create a level of transparency which fosters trust and respect.

3. Foster Long-term Relationships: Clear understanding from the start of a contract sets the deal up for a successful completion, a solid commercial relationship, and repeat business.
