Consecutive interpreting is used for meetings, conferences or training sessions where just two languages are being spoken.

Consecutive interpreting is where the interpreter provides interpreting into the common language of the audience, when the speaker pauses at short intervals during his/her speech.  The interpreter may take notes while you speak, especially if the subject contains many figures and technical facts.

On occasion, our interpreter will work with a speaker in advance to practice a well-timed delivery, and to ensure jokes and nuances are accurately performed.  The interpreter is then also present to assist with questions related to the presentation. Well-prepared experienced professional interpreters can render speeches of 10 minutes or more with great accuracy.

When can I use Consecutive Interpreting?

  • The interpreter speaks after the delegate has spoken.
  • The consecutive interpreter sits with the delegates, listens to the speech, and at a pause, provides the interpretation in the target language, generally with the aid of notes.
  • Consecutive interpreting is useful for highly technical meetings, training sessions, formal business lunches, mediations, negotiations and panel presentations with questions.
